Kirk Franklin – Wanna Be Happy? New Single

Wed 09 Sep 2015
By Isaac Borquaye

The word legend is often misused but when it comes to American Gospel artist Kirk Franklin, ‘legend’ is a perfect superlative. The 45 year old has released 12 albums, won  6 Grammys, and has toured worldwide consistently for the past 30 years.

Mr Franklin is seen as an inspiration to many because of his consistency and his transparency. He is open about struggles from his past and how Jesus played a big part in bringing him through and showing him the light in some extremely dark situations. After a 3 year hiatus Kirk is back with a song that embodies everything that he has stood for.

His new single ‘Wanna Be Happy’ is reminiscent of one of his hit single ‘Imagine Me’. A self-challenging yet uplifting narrative that encourages us to look in the mirror and look at Jesus. Kirk seems very grateful for all the support. He tweeted “I can’t thank you enough for the love you’ve shown my new song. Every human being was wired with the desire for happiness. And we will try different things all in the pursuit of that feeling. With this song, I'm saying, if you really want to be happy, you have to start with the originator,"

Wanna Be Happy is widely rumoured to be the elad single from Kirk’s forthcoming album. If this is indeed a taste of things to come, then we should all be very excited. It seems like Uncle Kirk is far from finished! Wanna Be Happy is available for download now. Check out the exclusive first performance of Wanna Be Happy live on BET's Sunday Best.
