Did urban UK Gospel music die in 2014?

If you have any interest in urban Gospel music here in the UK it’s a debate that you may have found yourself involved in at some point this year. “What happened to the scene?”

We teamed up with our very own presenter Karl Nova to give us his verdict and we were amazed to see that he was able to name over 30 album/E.P releases plus singles and free downloads in addition to that. It seems that when it comes to productivity, there’s a lot going on in UK urban Gospel but not many artists seem to be connecting with the audience because to many, the scene is still very quiet.

The general consensus is that there are less high profile releases, less album launches, less concerts and events and less to get excited about. Do you agree? If so, what are the reasons? Some put it down to a lack of quality or a lack of marketing whilst others have put it down with a lack of creativity and effort to connect with the audience.

Karl Nova disagrees and has listed various releases below which in his opinion, is proof that there are quality releases coming out of the UK Gospel scene at a productive rate. He states “It's so easy to miss out on releases when you come from a diverse underground niche scene that has so many different types of music. Here are some I've come across in the last 12 - 18 months. I am sure many have heard of some of them. It's only when you put them all together that you realise that a lot of high quality releases have come out from the UK.”
