Artist Spotlight… Limoblaze
Born Samuel Onwubiko, “God’s Favourite Baby” popularly known as Limoblaze, is one of Africa’s hottest urban gospel talents. The twenty-five year-old shattered his parents dreams by opting to pursue a career in music instead of medical science.
5 projects, millions of music streams and multiple international awards later; it would seem that Limo’s risky career move has definitely paid off.
When asked by Premier Gospel for the secret of his success, the “Mind” hit-maker said:“It’s the hand of God. I am very hardworking; I push myself beyond limits but it’s the grace of God. The Holy Spirit recently reminded me that it’s not the excellence of my music that has brought me this far, but the hand of God.”
Growing up in a musical household, Limoblaze was exposed to diverse music genres and began singing in his church choir at age 8. His early adolescent rap influences included Tupac and Eminem and more recently, DaTruth and Lecrae. Following on from his collaborative “Bridges” project with DaTruth, the next artist on Limoblaze’s wish list of collaborators is Reach Records Founder – Lecrae. Judging from Lecrae’s 12 second video response to Limo’s 2020 “Set me free remix challenge” submission, the respect is mutual. Limoblaze was featured on “Reach Records Summer 2020 Playlist” project, so hopefully he won’t need to wait much longer for his dream collaboration.
In 2019, Limoblaze shocked the UK gospel community by beating the likes of Jonathan McReynolds, Todd Dulaney, Tasha Cobbs and Joe Mettle to win “Best International Act” at the Premier Gospel Awards. Speaking about the win he said: “I do not look to awards for validation, but it tells me that people are paying attention to me and that my name is in the conversation. The Premier Gospel Awards was a highlight for me as I was up against some big heavy hitters.”
Limoblaze fans will be thrilled to learn that the star has two projects in the works, with the first dropping this summer.
