Dwayne Tryumf – Live in Concert

Artist: Dwayne Tryumf

Released: Jun 2014

Rating: 4/5

Dwayne Tryumf has been rapping since 1996 yet his lyrical skill still impresses and the content is as captivating as ever. Tryumf has released the long awaited Dwayne Tryumf – Live in Concert and it serves as a refreshing twist to his normal studio material.

This album has been in the works for a while as the concert from which it is taken from took place in November 2011. The fans were starting to grow weary and some even speculated that it had been scrapped, but it is finally here and boy was it worth the wait.

The album comprises of 10 tracks and they’ve all been recorded live. Most are tracks that we may have heard studio versions of before, but that doesn’t take away from the credibility of the music. It still sounds as new and as fresh as ever. Tracks such as ‘I Don’t Pack A Matic’ and ‘Roll Out’ have been two of Dwayne’s most successful singles in recent years, so the live versions on the new album will be sure to please loyal fans. The album kicks off strongly with the fantastic ‘777 Intro’, which has now racked up nearly half a million views on YouTube.

The album features a host of guest’s artists that add their flavour to the record. A Star, Matthew Allen, Jahaziel, and Gyamma appear on it to name but a few. Live in Concert is similar in style to Dwayne’s usual work but the live band and audience ambience really changes the feel of the album, and enables you to really catch the emotion behind every song. Dwayne Tryumf stays true to his hip hop roots and the content is clearly centred on his faith which is a breath of fresh air in today’s music industry.

The diversity of Live in Concert shines through as ‘African Drum’; a raw hip hop track where Dwayne showcases his lyrical skill is followed by the rather sweet and soft sounding ‘Proverbs 31 Woman’. ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ was a pleasant surprise as most of the tracks are live versions of music that he has already put out, so it was nice to hear something completely brand new.

That’s just a snapshot into this release, but once again Dwayne Tryumf has delivered a quality album that will go on to be played again and again, for years to come.

The album is now available worldwide, on iTunes and Amazon.
