John Givez - Soul Rebel Album Review

Sat 05 Sep 2015
By Isaac Borquaye

The name is John Givez and he has shaken the Christian Hip Hop world with brutal honesty.

Soul Rebel which is the name of his brand new album was eagerly anticipated and in my opinion it did not disappoint. John Givez touched on topics that Christian artist normally shy away from and he is completely unapologetic about it. He openly spoke about promiscuity, drugs and seeking material possessions over pleasing God. These are issues that a lot of faith based people struggle with but rarely discuss through music.

In the song 2004 John speaks of his upbringing. His dad was a baptist minister and encouraged him to live a Godly life but Mr Givez became a product of his environment, Ocean Side in California. He admits that the things he got involved in was not advised by his family but he got sucked in.

Musically the album can be compared to the masterpiece by mainstream Hip-Hop artist Kendrick Lamar. Soul Rebel is well thought through from the interludes to the beats and all the way to the visual aspect of the project. Get A Bar Of The Side was the first treat listeners got and they absolutely loved it.

The album is made up of 15 tracks and includes features from Humble Beasts J Givens and fellow Kings Dream Entertainment artists Beleaf and Ruslan.

Givez said last month that he thinks Soul Rebel will really challenge listeners and we believe it does just that. You can grab Soul Rebel from all digital download and streaming outlets.
