Trust in God

Artists: Soul Tempo, In His Presence Gospel Choir, Jonathan Butler & Jocelyn Brown

Released: Oct 2012

New releases around at the moment include soul, traditional gospel and dance.

On the soul front, Soul Tempo, who have an album out called Trust in God. They rose to prominence when they had an on-camera singing part in The Preacher’s Wife, and this is their first foray away from traditional standards. The title cut in particular is a great slice of 90s-sounding R&B with harmonies The Temptations would be proud of. In fact that’s an apt description when you see them on the video, lined up Temptations-style with purple sequinned jackets.

On a more traditional note is In His Presence Gospel Choir’s album, For His Glory. In their own words it’s chock full of ‘echoes, traditional and praise & worship anthems’. They are a group from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, and offer an uplifting mix of traditional and modern gospel giving glory to God.

Jonathan Butler is back, his new album, Grace and Mercy, combining his fantastic guitar skills and his distinctive soulful voice. Butler may have made his name with more jazzy offerings, but this is clearly aimed at the gospel/soul market what with more traditional gospel influenced Moments of Worship and Who is Like The Lord, and the mid-tempo R&B of Trialsand You’re All That I Need

For those of you who really like to move their feet in praising God, should look out for Jocelyn Brown’s latest offering. She really lets it rip on the Richard Earnshaw track, Worthy, a pulsating soulful house track, with Jocelyn giving thanks that He has been with us through ‘trials and tribulations’. It’s got a really catchy hook and there’s a clever video to accompany it, cartoon style, until you meet Jocelyn singing with choir in church, a picture of where real life is.
